EVENTS

The League of Women Voters of Utah welcomes the Washington County League-at-Large (LAL). The Washington County LAL will carry out the mission of empowering voters and defending democracy in Washington community with a small but committed group of members. As the membership grows the LAL can seek to become a full league. In the meantime the League of Women Voters of Utah takes on the administrative functions, allowing Washington County LAL to focus on registering voters, getting out the vote, educating voters, having forums for your community, and growing their membership.

MEETINg NOTES

March 23, 2024

Washington County LWV held a public forum on the Juvenile Justice System in Washington County. Starting from the premise that the best way to help victims of crime is to address the problems and issues that create youth offenders.

Our speakers were Colburn Winsor, a Washington County Defense Attorney and Teri Iverson from the Juvenile Justice Center. Both speakers spoke on how Utah is one of the leading states in how we deal with juvenile offenders. The programs put place to help stop recidivism and from branding kids making a bad decision from being branded as criminals.

It was an informative and enriching evening. And we are looking forward to our next general meeting on Affordable housing.
